I can hardly believe that yet another year has ended and another has just begun. How can it be 2012, when it feels like 2011 just started?!
We celebrated and rang in the new year with our good friends Jim and Julie at their house...it was a night of great food, great people, and some good laughs.
The get together was potluck style. I love this type of party because you get to sample lots of dishes that you might not make yourself. The hostess of the night prepared numerous savory delights for us :).
Steve volunteered to make some delicious appetizers (he's such a good cook!) and I (naturally) volunteered to make a few types of cookies.
I had been wanting to make a few cookies that I have never tried before: pignoli cookies and loaded peanut butter cookies.
I always get nervous when trying a new recipe...what will everyone think about it? Will it come out as well as I'd hoped?
Thankfully both types of cookies were well received by all! Even my paleo, crossfit loving hubbie ate a loaded peanut butter cookie! GASP!
So here are the sweets:
Here is another shot of both cookies on one of my favorite dessert plates :
(Even though neither cookie came out small...I'm always a believer that you should have more than one dessert! You only live once!)
I have always loved pignoli cookies - how soft the middle is and how sweet the pine nuts get after being baked.
The peanut butter cookies had pretzels and heath bars in them...oh yeah, they were delicious! Jim had the realization that they tasted like a Take 5 candy bar - only the best candy bar ever! So that in itself was a great compliment for me :)
(ps - I don't even want to admit how many of both kids I ate last night! Hey, it's a party, why not, right?)
Sorry this was a short post, but this old gal is pooped! 2am is a lot later now than it was 10 years ago :)
And so...happily wrapped up in a blanket with a glass of pinot grigio (channeling Ramona Singer! lol!) and a few loaded peanut butter cookies...I am ready to relax.
Happy 2012 my sweeties and remember to eat those sweets!
The peanut butter/pretzel combo sounds delicious!!! I'd love to steal the recipe from you soon! xoxo
ReplyDeleteIt was a lovely evening!! Thanks for bringing such yummy treats - both recipes were delicious and my new personal favorites!! The leftovers were devoured within days. Jim, Rylan, Miles and I are thankful for your friendship - we loved bringing in the New Year with you all!!
